About Southern Roofing Systems — 8 Years of Gulf Coast Roofing Excellence
We started in 2018 with a specific purpose: build a roofing company that operates like the Gulf Coast demands. Not a franchise. Not a seasonal operation. A permanent, local business with the locations, the knowledge, and the crew standards to serve Mobile County and Baldwin County right.
Founded in 2018: Building a Roofing Company the Gulf Coast Actually Needs
Southern Roofing Systems was founded in 2018 in Mobile, Alabama by roofers who had spent years watching what happened when Gulf Coast homeowners hired contractors who didn't understand the market. Storm chasers who quoted low and disappeared. National franchises that sent crews trained for inland conditions to work in Wind Zone III. Out-of-state operations that had no investment in the communities they were billing.
The founding premise was straightforward: the Gulf Coast is a specific roofing environment — different from Dallas, different from Atlanta, different from Nashville. Wind speeds, rainfall, salt air, humidity, hurricane frequency — these aren't just weather footnotes. They determine which materials to specify, how to install them, and what "done right" actually means for a roof that's expected to survive another Hurricane Sally or Ivan.
Since 2018, we've grown from a single crew in Mobile to a full-service roofing operation covering both Mobile County and Baldwin County. That growth isn't a marketing claim — it's the infrastructure that makes same-day response possible across a two-county service area.
Eight years in, we serve homeowners, commercial property managers, and businesses throughout the Gulf Coast. We're a licensed and insured roofing contractor and FORTIFIED™ Roof experts. We pull permits on every job. We give real assessments. And when something goes wrong within our workmanship warranty, we come back and fix it — no runaround.
Serving Mobile and Baldwin County — Local Response, Every Time
The single most important differentiator in this market is local presence and experience. A roofing company driving from three counties away can't offer the same response time, crew familiarity, or accountability that comes from serving this market every day since 2018. We eliminated that problem by building a real presence across both counties.Mobile County

Four Operating Principles Behind Every Roofing Project
We run on four operating principles that define every job we take, every crew we put on a roof, and every estimate we write.
Storm-Ready, Not Storm-Chasing
When hurricanes hit the Gulf Coast, we're already here. We don't drive down from Georgia when a storm makes landfall and disappear six months later. We live and work in Mobile County and Baldwin County year-round, which means we know exactly what Gulf Coast roofs face and what it takes to build them right.
Local Accountability
We serve both counties with local crews who are answerable to the same communities they work in. If something goes wrong with a job, we're here to make it right — not a 1-800 number routing to a national call center.
Real Assessments
If your roof needs repair instead of replacement, we'll say so. We don't up-sell work that isn't warranted. A contractor who pushes unnecessary replacement is a contractor building a short-term business, not a long-term one. We're building a long-term business in this market.
Residential and Commercial, Same Standards
Whether we're replacing shingles on a Daphne ranch home or installing TPO on a commercial building in Mobile, the installation standards are the same — permitted, inspected, and backed by a written workmanship warranty.
Gulf Coast Roofing Expertise: Wind Zones, Salt Air, and FORTIFIED Standards
South Alabama roofing is not the same as roofing anywhere else. Every specification we use — from the nail patterns to the flashing grades to the adhesive requirements for ridge cap — has been calibrated for Wind Zone III conditions, 66 inches of annual rainfall, and coastal salt exposure.
Wind Zone III Nail Patterns
The Gulf Coast falls under ASCE 7 Wind Zone III with design wind speeds of 130–160 mph. That dictates specific nail patterns, fastener types, and installation methods that differ from what a contractor trained for Wind Zone I or II will default to. We spec and install for the actual wind loads this market faces — not the minimum code standard from another region.
Coastal-Grade Flashings
Standard galvanized flashings corrode through in 5–7 years in coastal conditions — a timeline that would be 20 years in an inland market. We specify stainless or coated aluminum flashings on coastal properties, and we inspect existing flashing grades on every assessment we perform. This single upgrade prevents the most common failure mode in Gulf Coast roofing.
FORTIFIED Standard Installation
We're FORTIFIED Roof experts — we've completed FORTIFIED installations throughout both counties and understand the specific requirements: sealed roof deck, proper nail patterns, approved edge metal, and the independent inspection process that grants the designation. For many homeowners, FORTIFIED is the single best investment they can make in their home's storm resilience and insurance cost.
